Many years ago, a young Martha had a vivid dream of her first encounter with the clock heads. Laying in the darkness with only a spotlight, she was surrounded by silhouette figures dressed in suits. They echoed, “you are running out of time.” Another dream followed years later of an orb that entered an office building and began eating all of the clock head workers.

Martha held onto these images, and waited several years to start this collection. Once she returned back to painting, she kept her colorful fantasy series ongoing, but this series become something dear to her. The clock heads began to come alive and Martha wants to see them have an entire collection that starts from birth and leading to their death.

The Clock Head series is a lens into being human, and a reminder to develop an appreciation for time and not dreading the clock. We all share these two things: birth and death, but we choose what happens in between. Choosing to live, while having an awareness of our own mortality influences what we value and how we choose to use the time we have.
