The Cultural/Reflective series are a collection of paintings inspired by Martha’s Mexican heritage and family in Mexico. Martha would occasionally visit Mexico in her youth, but had larger visiting gaps as time progressed. Her mother and oldest sister became her link to the family while she focused on her studies and dance career. Martha started this series after traveling to Mexico to reconnect with family after years of lost time. During that missed time, Martha lost several family members, including her grandparents and beloved uncle. When she returned to the ranch to visit their grave sites, she apologized for not having spent more time with them and made a promise to keep making art to keep their memories alive through it. The pieces in this series celebrate life, family and culture.
